44 miles: 14 hours. Ascent: 1947 meters

Marathon: 8 hours. Ascent: 1183 meters

The South Hams Ultra is a very scenic 100 mile, 44 mile and 26 mile circumnavigation of South Hams in Devon, which follows the spanking new South Hams Way in South Devon for most of the way. If the full circle isn't for you, you can enter the 44 mile race from Totnes, or the marathon from South Brent instead.

The South Hams Ultra follows existing public rights of way, bridleways and coastal paths, as well as traversing parts of Dartmoor National Park, beautiful South Hams countryside, and five estuaries. The SHW was established by the South Hams Ramblers and we are very excited to be able to showcase this beautiful circumnavigation route, as part of their launch in October 2025.

The Route

You will circumnavigate South Hams in an anti clockwise direction, using the South Hams Way for the most part, but you will start at the Flete Etate, before crossing the Erme estuary to Wonwell.

From here, the route picks up the South Hams Way to Bigbury, using tehntodal road to Aveton Gifford and rounding the Avon Estuary. Then it's on tpo salcombe crossing via the ferry in Salcombe to East Portlemouth. The coast path then takes you through Dartmouth and on to the Dart Valley Way to Totnes, before geading to Buckfastleigh via Dartington and up on to the moor, down to South Brnet via the Avon Dam and back on to the moor at Peek gate,. The route jere skirts the southern edge of dartmoor, exiting the moor at South Brent on the Two Moors Way. It then picks up the Erme Plym trail south of Ivybridge, which takes you all the way to Noss Mayo and back to the finish at Mothecombe on the Flete Estate.

Forty four milers start at the Old Town Mill in Totnes and fiinish at Mothecombe.

Marathon Runners start at the Old School Community Centre in South Brent and finish in Mothecombe.
