By becoming a voluntary member of Wild Running, you will be warmly welcomed on any of our regular Thursday night Wild Runs in South Devon, free of charge. You can access any of the routes, which we share on FB or Whats App or by email on an OS map, with Viewranger.
You will be part of a sociable and friendly club, who love nothing better than getting muddy in all seasons, sometimes with dogs in tow, sometimes pausing for a swim, always to sample the local chips at where ever the nearest landlord happens to be. If you pay to become a member (which is voluntary) you also qualify for a free Wild Running T-shirt and a % discount with certain local physios and sports therapists, which includes Ashley Hill of “Rub my Back” and Joe Kelly “Bare Foot Athlete”.
Training advice, injury prevention and navigation skills will be part of the membership benefits for all levels of members. Over the course of the year, we will be creating a network of experts from specialist backgrounds within the sports science, sports therapy and well being world, as well as inviting guest runners from within these fields, to join us on the Thursday night runs.
Thursday evening off-piste running along the Trails of the South Hams with experienced, knowledgeable and highly motivated guides.
All abilities are catered for, from relative beginners to advanced runners. As long as you can run 5m on any surface. We are also looking at starting a monthly Tuesday night interval session for more advanced runners with specific objectives to improve.
Evening runs from October to March are generally Night Runs, and head torches are provided by our guides. Night running adds another dimension to the Wild Running experience, but suitable footwear and clothing will be required for prevalent weather conditions.
Usual distances for evening Wild Runs are approx 6-7 miles, roughly 10km, and usually last around 1-1.5 hours, depending on location and terrain. The evening is generally rounded off with a drink, cheesy chips and chat in a nearby pub.
Just a good old fashioned interval session on softish surfaces, sometimes on the flat sometimes on hills. Could be at Stover Park, could be in Parke, could be the cricket pitch in Dartington. It is only by boosting our athleticism (ie full range of movement) that we can hope to improve and improve our chances of staying injury free.
This will run like a kind of handicap, depending on how many runners we have, so the loops/routes will have to be carefully chosen. Stover is perfect for this, as there is scope for a long/short loop with figure of 8 options-all off road. It will be much more intense than a Thursday night but it’s not about racing each other, just a bit of hard work with tangible rewards. So only sign up if you’re keen!
